Something I realized is that it's been a really long time since a fake Nintendo leak took hold on the community.
It used to be almost every week that someone tried to pass off a photoshopped image or a picture of a piece of paper with a "Direct schedule" on it, and fake Smash character leaks used to be rampant all over the internet.
But for the past couple years, the fake leaks have pretty much completely stopped. It feels like it's been forever since anyone tried to post a fake screenshot of an upcoming game, or a rumor so prevalent that news outlets report on it.
The last big fake leak I remember being popular was the "Grinch Leak," and that was back in 2018. There was also the one that had Mallow and Cacodemon hats in Smash, but that one was a lot less popular.
To be honest, I kind of miss them, because the drama they caused was really funny.
Did the Nintendo community finally get smarter about fake leaks? Or is it simply that fewer are being made?
