I’m about to get real. Listen, the Nintendo Switch has been a marvelous console and obviously has many original games to keep it relevant even with next generation consoles on the horizon. But as nintendo moves forward and creates gorgeous new games, I can’t help but feel like some of what made Nintendo’s consoles fun and magical are being abandoned. Yeah, I’m talking about the Mii’s.
Maybe I am seeing things through some nostalgic goggles here, but there was something pricelessly novel about sitting down with your friends and creating ridiculous characters with each other. Hoarding both the beautiful and sheer abdominal creations your friends and family created on the Mii Plaza was something of a trophy case. And seeing them as playable characters in numerous titles felt like it gave a more personal flare to the gameplay. I loved titles like Tomodachi Life and Wii Sports Resort, they had such a simple concept and felt like games you could just kick your feet up and play without any pressure to achieve something too far from reach. Am I the only one who misses these guys showing up as an option around every corner of big game titles?
But seeing as how there has been little involvement with these silly characters in the Switch’s lifespan thus far, and how the Mii Creator is deeply buried within the system settings of the console, it seems to me like they are becoming a thing of the past and there will be no more first party games involving them. This was really enforced when Clubhouse Games came out, it really felt like the Switch’s version of Wii Play with no Mii’s in sight.
What do you guys think? Is it possible we will get a first party Mii based game anytime soon?
