I love the aesthetics and world building of Splatoon, and while I enjoy the single-player story mode that the game offers I think it is clear enough that the series is designed foremost as a competitive multiplayer experience.
The franchise is seeing great success and has cemented itself as a powerhouse in the Nintendo family. I would like to argue there is room for a Splatoon spin-off game that focuses less on the always-online competitive core of Splatoon and instead offers players a fun new way to explore the Splatoon world. A game that relaxes the expectation to perform for the sake of teammates and rank.
As for the specifics. It could be just about anything. From a turn based RPG game to a point and click puzzle game to high octane splat and rush racing games. The most important thing to me would be to maintain the spirit of the Splatoon world, but to experience it in a different way.
