5. Mario Odyssey
I like Mario Odyssey quite a bit. The movement is fantastic and I really like the addition of Cappy. Every single area feels so unique and cool in its own way. Plus, this game has great level design. The only reason that it isn't higher is that I still think it has some major flaws on top of a lot of things I just personally don't like. Its also the only game I never connected with emotionally, like it never made me feel happy, sad, wonder, anger, etc. Plus, everything that this game does well, other games on this list do much better. 6.5/10, I enjoyed it and it was fun! Objectively this would probably be 3rd place and It's a good game but all of these next ones are just better.
4. Mario Sunshine
This game has so much charm. I love the beach theming, I love FLUDD and the movement, I love the colours in this game, I love all the secrets Delfino plaza has to offer, but most of all I love how every single time you enter a portal you never know what you are going to do. It's just so wacky and out there. This game has the worst camera, the most glitches and sometimes the music felt repetitive but It's just so likeable that I find myself smiling for no reason while playing this, though its probably the most flawed game on this list. 8/10
3. Mario 3D land
There isn't a single ounce of fat on this game. Everything is so lean and there's really no filler. Plus, many of the games from this era are the ones that give me the most nostalgia so I'm probably a bit biased, but even then this game is a good addition to the Mario franchise even if it often gets overlooked. Also, 3D graphics blew my little kid mind away. 7/10, +1 for nostalgia and childhood memories so 8/10 from a subjective standpoint.
2. Mario 64
What else can I say that hasn't already been said? ITS MARIO 64. That name alone needs no further explanation. Everybody knows why it's great. I love it, you love it, your grandma probably loves it... Just play the game already. Then play it again. and again. 9/10
1. Mario Galaxy
What a wondrous a whimsical experience. Definitely my favourite Mario game. The best way I can describe Mario galaxy is that its just... magical. From the music to the storytelling to the galaxies themselves to the planets and to the figurative atmosphere in space, everything is just perfect. It just chucks idea after idea at you and all of the galaxies are just so amazing. Plus, gravity physics. Period. 9.5/10
