I am playing through Super Mario Sunshine with my friends right now and we just found out that Il Piantissimo uses the Postman design from the Zelda series. It's a really cool nod and reminds me of how the Mario paintings were in Hyrule Castle in Ocarina of Time and the Yoshi plushie and goombas in Link's Awakening.
I feel like in this situation Smash bros is cheating since it's nothing but cross-franchise nods. So aside from Smash Bros, what's your favorite hint/nod to a different game series in a nintendo game?
