Nintendo has 3 main sci-fi franchises, and they don't seem to get enough attention. Why is that?

Star Fox, as a game about flying spaceships at a thousand miles an hour destroying the enemy, is perhaps better than most current Star Wars games coming out of EA these days. Star Fox might even be better than Rogue Squadron, which says a lot. I just wish we got a dedicated Star Fox game for the Switch, instead of Starlink with some Star Fox content.

F-Zero is a fantastic racing game, but the last one of the series came out all the way back on the Gamecube. It's Nintendo's version of Speed Racer or something. It's a blazing fast anti-grav racer where if you blink, you'll crash.

Metroid is my favorite out of all of these. It doesn't feel like a furry version of Star Wars, or some old anime. It takes its influence from the original Alien films, but there's far more to it than that. Metroid is one of the few Nintendo titles with its own Manga, and while the story is a little weird it at least sets it apart as something different from its influences. The game essentially created a new genre, Metroidvania, which focuses more on free exploration of mazes instead of left to right platforming. Plus the character wears future football gear.

These are all great franchises, mostly. It makes me wonder why their sales are poor. Do gamers dislike science fiction?
