The Wario Land franchise was so innovative and creative.
Wario Land 2 & 3 introduced mechanics that were so different from mainline Mario titles. They relied on exploration and puzzle solving versus straight up platforming. The ability to transform Wario (fat, flattened, zombified, inflated, forzen, springy, etc.) to reach new areas OR send you back is so clever.
Wario Land 4 was also a great game that differed slightly from #3 in that you could take damage and you didn't have to collect keys to unlock new moves. And it stands out because there wasn't even a standard Mario platformer on the GBA beyond Mario Advance 1-4.
Wario: Master of Disguise on the DS was terrible, and Wario Land never came back. Edit: I never played Shake It unfortunately.
Wario World was kind of a dud, and now Wario is relegated to Wario Ware (fun, but nothing compared to Wario Land) and ensemble games like Smash Bros, Mario Kart, Mario Party, and sports games.
It's a shame that the innovations of Wario Land never made the jump to 3D.
