Super Metroid finally clicked for me

Super Metroid was the first Metroid game I played. I bought it for the Wii U in 2013 or 2014. Back then I cleared it and understood all the acclaim it got but personally speaking I thought it didn't age that well. Metroid Fusion was my favorite Metroid for the longest time because of the more modern controls and more interesting room-to-room level design.

Since then I replayed it 3 times now. 1x in 2019, 1x yesterday and finally the last playthrough was today.

And man....the last two playthroughs opened my eyes. This game is infinitely replayable. Just yesterday I got a 5h6m clear time. Today I though I would put the experience I got to good use and tried to clear it under 3h. Final playtime was 2h43m. I was overjoyed. Playing this game trying to find upgrades and being faster each time is so addictive.

I can't add anything meaningful to the conversation when it comes to game design and level design because it is well known what a masterpiece it is. It is just absolutely impressive to this very day and thats quite the feat. From the invisible guiding hand, the art and music and the sequence breaking to the feeling of being lost and making progression.....everything comes together to make this game an achievement for the ages....

While I still think I liked Metroid Fusion a little bit better....I have to say that both games became one of my absolute favorite games of all time. What a franchise.

Hopeful for more Metroid goodness in the near future!
